The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales and both recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. Winning a Green Flag Award brings excellent publicity especially since both the media and the public are becoming increasingly aware that a site flying a Green Flag is a high quality green space.
Beggarwood Park has joined Eastrop Park and War Memorial Park in gaining the prestigious Green Flag status, putting them among the best green spaces in the UK.
It is the first year that Beggarwood Park has been assessed under the Green Flag scheme following £258,000 of investment in 2021 which saw improvements to seating, bins and landscaping. New play equipment and a pump track for BMXers, skaters and scooters was also installed in the open space as well as a Wild Zone to encourage children to explore the natural world.
Eastrop Park has been awarded Green Flag status for the 24th year running by the scheme while War Memorial Park has received the same award for the 16th year in a row. The Green Flag Awards are nationally recognised as a sign of quality, indicating that the parks have the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained, clean and safe, and have excellent facilities for visitors. They have been presented to the parks by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
