Join us to help keep Basingstoke and Deane clean

Keep BDBC tidy campaign

We're calling on the borough's volunteers, groups and organisations as we launch our Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean campaign for a second year.

Keeping our streets, parks, play areas and countryside clean and tidy is a key priority for us at the council. But we can all play our part to reduce litter and stamp out antisocial acts like graffiti, dog fouling and fly-tipping which blight our communities.

Like last year, we're asking people to show their love for their communities and set up litter picks and tidy up events during two weeks of action, starting on Saturday 14 February and running until Saturday 28 February 2026. We encourage residents to join a public litter pick event where they can. Details of those events can be viewed at the bottom of this page.

Although we are encouraging organisations to litter pick during February, our aim is to run the Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean themed campaign throughout the year. So, keep an eye out for updates on our website and social media for further events and activities.

How you can help

We are looking for community-minded residents, partners, community groups and organisations to support this campaign to promote pride in our borough.

We’d love you to either join in or stage your own litter pick or a clear-up event in your community and, in return, we’ll supply litter pickers and bags and collect all the waste you collect. We will also promote your event on our website and social media channels and share your successes.

If you're looking to stage an event we will need to know:

  • when and where you are planning to hold your event
  • the finish time and what3words location of your event to enable us to collect the litter
  • a copy of your Public Liability Insurance certificate

Full guidance on how to plan and run your event safely is available from our website A guide for litter pick event organisers

Let us know if you or your groups or organisation would like to get involved and support our borough-wide campaign by Friday 6 February.

We’ll provide more information on promoting your event and sharing successes once you have confirmed your date with us. We’d love to hear from you whether you can organise an event during the two weeks of action in February or at another time in the year.
