We are looking for volunteers, groups and organisations to support our new campaign.
Launched in February half term with an event at Little Pen Wood on Wednesday 19 February, this initiative encourages community-minded individuals, local groups and organisations to run or take part in local litter picks or clean-up sessions in their areas across the borough.
Keeping our streets, parks, play areas and countryside clean and tidy is a key priority for us at the council, but we can all play our part to reduce litter and stamp out antisocial acts like graffiti, dog fouling and fly-tipping which blight our communities.
The local clean-up campaign draws on themes of the national Great British Spring Clean run by Keep Britain Tidy and focusses on what we can all do to promote pride in our borough. To help the launch of Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean in the borough, we are hoping that you, or your group or organisation will join us in building a programme of organised litter picks and events to tidy up important areas in our communities.
And we hope it won’t stop there. Our aspiration is that the Keep Basingstoke and Deane Clean campaign will encourage community-minded groups and volunteers to continue to hold litter picks or community tidy up activities all year round for people to get involved in.
We are keen to work alongside local people, community groups and organisations to support improvements throughout the borough and we are seeking volunteers to support this campaign to promote pride in our borough.
We’d love your support to help stage a litter pick or a clear-up event in your community and, in return, we’ll supply litter pickers and bags and collect all the waste you collect from your organised event. We also promote your event on our website and social media channels and share your successes and support for our campaign in publicity materials. All events must be covered by Public Liability Insurance.
If you, your group or organisation would like to get involved and support our borough-wide campaign let us know.
For an event we will need to know:
Full guidance on how to plan and run your event safely is available from our website A guide for litter pick event organisers
We’ll provide more information on promoting your event and sharing successes once you have confirmed your date with us. We’d love to hear from you whether you can organise an event during the launch from Monday 17 February to Sunday 2 March or at another time in the year.
