Large shops (those over 280m2) are limited to opening for only six hours on a Sunday. They may trade for any six hour period between 10am and 6pm. There are no such restrictions on shops under this size.
All large shops must display their trading hours both inside and outside the premises.
The Environmental Health Team is responsible for ensuring that the relevant shops trade only within their displayed hours and for no longer than the permitted maximum of six hours.
Large shops are also not permitted to open at any time on Easter Sunday or Christmas Day if it falls on a Sunday.
There may be occasions when a customer or local resident is concerned that the licensing objectives are not being met by a licensed premises and/or licensees and wishes to report this to the council. This can be done by completing a Licensing Complaints Form giving full details of any incidents or issues. The Licensing Team will investigate and take appropriate action.
