Renewable energy

Net zero ambitions and the increased use of modern technologies, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, means we’ll likely use more electricity than ever before in coming years.

To meet this demand while continuing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels, more electricity will need to be generated from renewable sources.

Recognising the importance of renewable energy, we:

  • now power our offices by using 100% renewable electricity, installing solar panels on several of our buildings
  • are looking to invest over half a million pounds to power more of our community centres with solar panels
  • are working with infrastructure providers to support national decarbonisation efforts and providing the owners of large non-domestic buildings in the borough with free reports about solar panels for their properties
  • help to promote loans and grants for energy efficiency improvements, which could include solar panels, and our local community energy societies that can install community-owned solar panels on non-domestic buildings’ roofs for free.
