Self-build and custom build register

Register your interest for self-build or custom build homes in Basingstoke and Deane.

The Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 places a duty on local councils in England to keep a register of people who are interested in self-build or custom build projects in their area. This register will help inform us of the level of demand for self-build and custom build plots in Basingstoke and Deane.

What are self-build and custom build homes?

The terms 'self-build' and 'custom-build' describe situations where individuals or groups are involved in creating their own, individually designed home.

Self-build projects are defined as those where someone directly organises the design and construction of their own home. This covers a wide range of projects including a traditional DIY self-build home to projects where the self-builder employs someone to build their home for them. Community-led projects can also be defined as self-build.

Custom build homes are where you work with a developer as an individual or a group to help deliver your own home. This is more of a hands-off approach but your home will be tailored to match your requirements.

How to register your interest

If you would like to register your interest for a custom or self-build plot, please complete the online registration below.

In order to join the register, the Regulations require that:

• you are aged 18 years or over
• you are a British citizen, a national of an EEA State other than the United Kingdom, or a national of Switzerland
• the self-build/custom build property will be your sole or main home.

By signing up, you will help us find out more about the demand for custom and self-build plots, where people would like their plot to be and the type of house that they would like to build. We will use the information to explore ways in which it might be possible for people and plots to be brought together.

Registration does not guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified or made available to you. You are not making any commitment at this stage and may remove yourself from the register if you change your mind.

In accordance with the Self-Build and Customer Housebuilding Regulations (2016), there is a one-off fee of £15 to join the Register.

We may publish headline data based upon the information that you provide, but your personal information will not be made public. Please contact us on self.build@basingstoke.gov.uk to notify us if your circumstances change or you wish to be deleted from the register.
