A travel plan contains a package of measures designed to offer a choice of travel modes and encourage travelling in a more sustainable way.
A travel plan will usually focus on reducing the number of single occupant car trips to or from a site, however, it can also assist in the wider aims of improving health, and reducing congestion and pollution.
Examples of travel plan objectives will include:
- Encouraging walking and cycling
- Reducing the need to travel
- Facilitating car sharing
- Promoting and improving public transport
Further advice on the preparation of travel plans is available in the Government's Planning Practice Guidance.
Across the borough, 40 travel plans have been developed to date. Many of these have provided practical solutions to transport issues which organisations have faced. The number of travel plans being developed is increasing all the time and support is available to assist in their preparation by Hampshire County Council.
Please note, all travel plans covering schools are managed by Hampshire County Council.
