This strategy sets out our vision and priorities for how the installation of vehicle chargers will continue to be driven forward across the borough.
Shaped through public consultation in autumn 2024, the strategy was adopted at Cabinet in February 2025.
Strategy objectives
To accelerate a shift to electric vehicles by residents and businesses to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality, the strategy objectives are to:
- encourage the creation of a variety of vehicle chargers of different types and speeds throughout the borough, with these offering users a competitive price that is cost neutral to the council
- complement the availability of commercial charging points with publicly owned ones
- ensure new development provides sufficient charging infrastructure for residents and visitors
- support tenants of council-owned properties to provide charging infrastructure
- work with partners, including housing associations and town and parish councils, to assist with the creation of new charging points
- aid the transition of the council fleet, public transport, local distribution companies and private hire and taxis to zero-emission vehicles
