Injunction application unauthorised encampments

The application by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council to the High Court for a final injunction against the setting up of unauthorised encampments within the urbanised area of Basingstoke town, as well as the outlying areas of Bramley, Silchester, Tadley Common and a small parcel of land at Stratfield Turgis was granted on 28 March 2025. The injunction includes provision for powers of arrest and will be in place until 3 April 2026 and prevents unauthorised encampments in a 26 square mile radius of Basingstoke and Deane.

On 13 February 2026 Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council applied to the High Court to extend the injunction for another year. The date of the hearing was scheduled to be 20 March 2026. The documents in support of the application can be viewed below.

The policy below has been adopted to provide, those who wish to set up an encampment in the borough, the opportunity to seek written permission to do so, whether this is within the injunction area or not.
