Our approach to unauthorised encampments
An injunction against the setting up of unauthorised encampments within the urbanised area of Basingstoke town, as well as the outlying areas of Bramley, Silchester, Tadley Common and a small parcel of land at Stratfield Turgis was granted on 28 March 2025. View full details of the injunction
The council was granted an interim injunction on Tuesday 21 February at the High Court. This injunction prevents any further tree removal, laying of hardstanding, bringing onto the land of any other building materials, further caravans, mobile homes or buildings and any other construction work on the land adjacent to and rear of Culhams Mill, Little London Road in Silchester.
The injunction was served at the site on the evening of Tuesday 21 February and will remain in place. A planning application was subsequently submitted and refused. An Enforcement Notice was served following the decision to refuse the planning application. An appeal was submitted against the service of an Enforcement Notice. The appeal against the Enforcement Notice was dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate on 6 July 2022 and the enforcement case is with the Planning Enforcement Team.
