Environmental Protection Guidance Note for Developers and Consultants Noise Assessments and Reports for Planning Applications is to assist developers, agents, consultants and their clients where noise could have an impact and is a consideration for any proposed development. This could be where noise would be caused by the proposed development, or the proposed development would be exposed to existing noise sources.

This Guidance Note will help understand how council officers test and judge any noise assessment report submitted in support of an application and when such assessments will be required.

To avoid situations which cause decisions on applications to be delayed or refused, because inadequate information has been provided in support of a proposal, the advice given should be followed.

The advice contained Guidance Note should be followed to ensure good acoustic design of the development to prevent and minimise disturbance from noise as required by s10.22 of the Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on Design and Sustainability.
