Play area refurbishment programme

The council manages over 145 equipped play areas within parks and open spaces across the borough and recognises the importance of outdoor play for children’s development and wellbeing.

A review of play areas has resulted in capital funding being allocated to a programme of play area refurbishments which are now being delivered. Play areas have been scored against a range of criteria in relation to their age, condition and compliance with our play standards. The programme will deliver play area refurbishment projects in order of priority, with those most in need of renewal scoring the highest.

The Play area refurbishment priority list sets out the programme for delivery and will be updated at regular intervals as works progress. The order of the play areas on the list might be revised in the case of significant events which would increase priority of a site, in the case of extreme vandalism which cannot be repaired, or significant loss of equipment due to age and condition.
