Bulky household waste collection

This service is not available for businesses. Please see our waste responsibilities webpage page for more information.

Are any of your items suitable for reuse?

If any of your items could be reused there are a number of local charities who may collect your items for a small donation:

Alternatively, there are a number of groups on Facebook and other social media sites where you can give away bulky household items.

Important information before you book a collection

Do:

  • Leave items by 6am May to August, 7am September to April
  • Place items together and within your property boundary, as close to the road as possible (not the public highway/footpath).
  • We collect items from the front of properties, such as driveways or front gardens. Only if your back garden faces the road and is the most accessible place can we arrange a collection from there.
  • Ensure items are visible, accessible and manageable by two people. If lack of access prevents collection a refund will not be given.
  • Leave items at ground level and stacked neatly.
  • Cover your items during wet weather. Waterlogged items cannot be lifted.
  • Live in a flat? Leave the items in or next to your bin store - write your flat number on a piece of paper and tape it to your items.

Don't:

  • Items must not contain rubbish. Fridges and freezers must be empty.
  • Leave additional items, those not included in your booking will not be taken.
  • Items must not contain glass panels or mirrors.

Our collection staff CANNOT:

  • Collect from inside buildings including garages or sheds.
  • Knock on doors to ask for access to the items for collection including waiting for cars to be moved.
  • Phone to say they are on their way as they do not have your personal information.

Cancellation of a collection

Remember - don't dump it! If your waste is dumped illegally, you could be prosecuted - even if it was someone else who dumped it. For more information on this, please see our fly tipping webpage.

Legitimate and responsible waste businesses will be happy to give you all the information you want about how and where your waste will be disposed of.

Visit the Environment Agency website to check the list for licensed a waste carriers.

Upholstered Domestic Seating & POPs

Due to new legislation concerning POPs (persistent organic pollutants), we have had to change the way we dispose of all upholstered domestic seating, including sofas, armchairs, pouffes, footstools, cushioned dining chairs, futons, sofa beds, bean bags and floor cushions.

At the time of collection you may now see crews bagging any upholstered domestic seating included on your booking.

For more information on these changes and the legislation, please see our Frequently Asked Questions, call our Customer Services team on 01256 844844, or visit the Hampshire County Council website.
