European Parliamentary Election - South East Region
The European Parliamentary Election is due to take place on Thursday 23 May 2019.
Basingstoke and Deane is part of the South East Region for this election and the South East will elect 10 Members of the European Parliament (MEP).
This election uses a proportional representation voting method. You have one vote to elect all of the MEPs for the South East Region.
Each party will put forward a list of candidates (known as a regional list). You vote for one of these lists or for an individual candidate standing as an independent.
The MEPs for each party that are elected to represent the South East depends on the overall share of votes that each party receives.

Who can vote in the European Election
All electors are eligible to vote in this election. Poll cards will be sent out towards the end of April.
Citizens of EU countries
We have recently written to all citizens of all EU member states (other than the UK, Republic of Ireland, Malta or Cyprus) who are currently registered to vote, asking where they wish to vote in these elections. If you’re a citizen of an EU member country you must complete and return an EU citizen European Parliament voter registration form to tell us you want to vote in Basingstoke and Deane.
You must send the form to us by midnight Tuesday 7 May 2019. You can return your form by:

Register to vote deadlines
The deadline to register to vote in this election is midnight Tuesday 7 May 2019.
You’ll need your:
- National Insurance number
- passport if you’re a British citizen living abroad, and want to vote in England, Scotland or Wales
If you are an eligible elector and you are already on the Register of Electors for Basingstoke and Deane, you do not need to re-register for these elections.
