Reporting fly-tipping issues

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste. It's an eyesore, it's harmful to the environment, it can be dangerous to anyone who comes in to contact with it and it's expensive to clean up. Those found guilty of fly-tipping can face fines and/or a prison sentence.

If you see or witness fly-tipping

Report it to us online. If you witness someone in the act, please make a note of the incident if it is safe to do so.

The following information may help us to make a successful prosecution:

  • The day, date and time of the incident
  • Make, model, colour and registration number of vehicle involved
  • How many people involved and what they looked like
  • Details of what was being fly-tipped, for example household waste, garden rubbish, broken furniture
  • How much was dumped, for example black sacks, size of a wheelbarrow full, contents of a car boot, van load
  • Any photographs taken of the incident

Please do not put yourself at any risk if you witness an incident. Your personal safety is always more important than anything else.

Removal of the fly-tip

If the fly-tip is on council owned land or the public highway we aim to remove it within 48 hours, unless enforcement procedures are required.

If it is on private land, including Housing Association land, it is the landowners responsibility to clear the waste.
