When are my bins collected?

Bin changes website header - thin

Together with our contractor Serco we have made some changes to waste, recycling and garden waste collections in the borough. This means that over half of the borough’s households have had their collection day changed to ensure the smooth running of the service both now and in the future.

The new bin collection days have started (from the week beginning Monday 22 July 2019) please ensure all bins are out by 7am. You can look up your new waste and recycling collection days below. You can also view your garden waste collections if you are signed up to the service.

Please be aware this is a period of adjustment for both residents and our crews. If you miss your new collection day we will not be able to come back but you can leave extra bagged waste next to your grey bin and extra recycling in clear plastic liners/cardboard box next to your green bin on your next collection. Extra glass can be taken to a bottle bank, please do not leave in cardboard boxes or overfill your glass box. We thank you for your patience during this first few weeks.

If you are due for an extra collection this week and we have not collected it today, please leave your bins out and we will return.

To provide you with your collection dates we first need to know where you live. Different properties on the same street may fall under different rounds, so it is essential that you select your own property and not that of a neighbour. Please search for and select your address below.

Enter a postcode, street name or house name etc.

If your bin(s) has/have not been collected by 6pm on your new collection day we are currently not returning for missed collections during the transition period to the new collection dates. Please take your bins in and put out on your next collection day with any side waste (black bags for general waste and cardboard box/clear sacks for recycling).

For missed assisted collections and garden waste please telephone 01256 844844 to report this.

Can I put out extra sacks of rubblish next to my grey bin?

During the first two weeks of changes you will be able to leave extra bagged waste because of the gap between collections.

My collection day hasn't changed, why do I have to put my bin out by 7am?

There is no specific time that your bin will be collected between 7am and 6pm, please leave your bin out during this time until it is collected. Please do not report it missed until after 6pm.

Our collections can start as early as 7am. Your day may not have changed but other collections on your round have which will affect your collection time. Don’t miss a collection, always put your bin out by 7am on your collection day, or the evening before.

My recycling will not be collected for three weeks. What shall I do with recycling I can't fit into my green bin?

Some of the changes mean you may wait up to three weeks between recycling collections so you can:

  • Place any extra recycling in a cardboard box next to your green bin on you next collection day.
  • Collect some clear recycling sacks from participating parish councils or Parklands reception, at Basingstoke and Deane Civic Offices, London Road.
  • Use one of the household recycling centres to recycle your extras but please note you will need to separate them into different containers on site.

My recycling will not be collected for four weeks. What do I do with recycling that I can't fit into my green bin?

If your collection is going to be delayed by over a week please read your leaflet carefully as we have provided details of an additional collection. This will happen on your old collection day during the week commencing Monday 22 July 2019.

I am due an extra recycling or garden waste collection and this was scheduled for my old collection day but you haven’t taken it, what shall I do?

Please leave your recycling or garden waste out and we will return the following day.

Why are we making changes?

We are improving bin collection routes and changing collection days to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

These changes are necessary to ensure the smooth running of the service both now and in the future by reducing the distances bin trucks are travelling and revising routes to incorporate new homes in the area. The new routes will simplify collections for some residents so that all their recycling is collected on the same day and will also help crews to finish collections on time.

Will my collections be changed?

Everyone’s collection will change, this could range from the time your collection is made to changes to your collection day and week pattern.

I live in a flat or use a shared bin store, what shall I do?

You have been sent leaflets providing details of your collections but you do not need to do anything with this information and should continue to place your items in the bin store as normal.

Will my garden waste collection change?

Garden waste collections will also change. If you have not receive a leaflet or you have misplaced yours, you can look up your new collection date above.

I didn't receive a leaflet?

You can check your new collection days online on this page.

Why have I been sent a leaflet when I can look up my collection date online?

We appreciate that not everyone has online access so we have opted to write to everyone to ensure all residents receive this information.

All households will see a change to their bin collections whether it’s a change to the day, the week or even the time their waste, recycle or garden waste is collected, therefore it’s important we communicate this message with every household. We have provided an online ‘look up’ to give residents a quick and simple way to find out their dates.

The leaflets were designed so that residents can easily keep them on the fridge, a board or somewhere prominent to use as a reminder when the changes come into place. They include a calendar for the next four months.

When are the bin day changes happening?

From the week commencing Monday 22 July 2019.

If my collection day hasn't changed, when will I be notified?

You should have been notified by leaflet but you can also check online on this page.

I haven't been notified of a change, but my neighbour has. Am I affected?

All homes should have received a leaflet confirming their collection day. You can check if your collections are changing by using our bin collection look-up above.

Will my garden waste day be on the same day as my waste and recycling?

The changes mean we are able to collect most people’s garden waste on the same day as either their waste and/or recycling. We will also send a leaflet about garden waste changes to everyone so look out for notification in the post by Wednesday 17 July 2019. You can check online on this page.
