Pay by direct debit

Setting up a direct debit is quick and easy

Council Tax

You'll need:

  • council tax account number
  • bank name, branch and sort code
  • bank account number and name(s) on the account

You can either email your completed and signed form to localtax@basingstoke.gov.uk or post it to us: Council Tax, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke RG21 4AH.

You can also set up a direct debit over the phone by calling 01256 844844, selecting option 2 and then 4.

Business Rates

You will need:

  • business rate account number
  • bank name, branch and sort code
  • bank account number and name(s) on the account

Housing benefit overpayments

You will need:

  • housing benefit overpayments invoice number
  • bank name, branch and sort code
  • bank account number and name(s) on the account

Property debtors invoices:

You will need

  • your account reference number
  • bank name, branch and sort code
  • bank account number and name(s) on the account.

    Pay online

    We accept most of the major debit and credit cards and our payments are processed by Capita Software Services.

    Using a highly secure link you can pay for the following services online at any time, please make sure you have the relevant reference number:

    • Non-domestic rates (NDR) - NDR reference number which you can find on your bill (an eight digit number starting with a 5).
    • Council tax - council tax reference number which you can find on your bill (an eight digit number starting with a 6).
    • Housing benefit overpayments - reference number which you can find on your invoice (an eight digit number starting with a 7).
    • Parking fine - Penalty Charge Number (PCN) reference number
    • Property debtors invoices - customer reference and invoice number
    • Sundry debtors invoices - customer reference and invoice number
    • Invoice (miscellaneous debtors) including allotments - please refer to the payment help text on the input screen for the correct use of account references
    • Other miscellaneous payments, including:
      • various permits
      • licences
      • tree work
      • fixed penalty notices (FPN)
      • penalty notices for disorder (PND)
      • various courses

    By signing up for a My Basingstoke account you will only need to enter your details once to be able to:

    To pay your bill via telephone or online banking, or by standing order with your bank you will need our bank details.

    You MUST quote your billing reference shown on the front of your bill as the reference for your payment (or we won't be able to allocate it to your specific bill and it may show as unpaid).

    You can send us a cheque or postal order made payable to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for the following please ensure that you quote your account reference number for the relevant service. If you require a receipt please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

    Call 01256 844844 during council opening hours (Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.30pm and Friday 8.30am to 5pm, excluding Bank and Public holidays) for the following payments:

    Call 01256 845757 for our automated service, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the following payments:

    • Council tax
    • Business rates

    Please have your reference number (which you’ll find on your bill) and credit or debit card ready when calling. You'll need a pen and paper ready to note down your payment reference number at the end of the call.

    During council opening hours you can also call 01256 844844 to pay.

    Pay in person

    You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card at Parklands reception between 8:30am and 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), via the self-service payment machines.

    You must bring your payment slip, reference number, bill or penalty charge notice with you.
