The borough council undertook three assessments of potential future development areas. This was to provide guidance on the biodiversity implications of having further development within the borough. It also informed the now adopted Local Plan 2011 to 2029. All of the assessed sites and combination of sites are located in the areas surrounding Basingstoke, Bramley, Overton and Whitchurch.
The areas were assessed for the compatibility between the principle of undertaking development within them and the range of biodiversity policies and legislation that would have to be applied to such a decision.
